Hospital
voluntary work covers a wide range of activities and there are
opportunities for volunteers to help at all Wirral's
hospitals. Some volunteers help on wards, enhancing the care
provided by hospital staff by chatting to patients and serving
refreshments. Others get involved in the hospital welcome
service, assisting reception staff in welcoming patients to the
hospital and dealing with enquiries. People with a keen
interest in music might want to join one of the hospital radio
stations either as a broadcaster or researcher. If you
prefer more practical work, you could help in one of the hospital
shops or serve in a tea bar.
There
are also opportunities for people who want to work with patients
on an individual basis, whether it be assisting in a computer
class for patients, getting involved in therapeutic activities or
visiting and supporting patients in aftercare schemes.
Hospices
care for people with progressive illness for which there is no
cure. Volunteers help with reception work, assist on the
wards and help with fundraising activities as well as getting
involved in practical tasks such as driving, gardening and
catering.
